  • Come relax, enjoy the new member art that is up!

  • FRAA will be featuring the beautiful oil paintings of local artist John Leasure, and the vibrant artwork of high school student Elissa Hurley during the month of March. Visitors will enjoy artwork and refreshments and will be treated to an “Art Demo” by Leasure. John Leasure has lived in Florence for the past 40 years, raising a family with wife Tracy, and owning West Coast Cabinets for many of those years. For the past 27 years he has taught oil painting classes in Florence.

    • John Leasure is active in the Florence art scene, serving as Treasurer of FRAA, where he also teaches Saturday morning oil painting classes. He is a member artist at Backstreet Gallery on Bay Street, where many of his paintings are exhibited. He serves on the Florence Event Center’s (FEC) Gallery Committee, where he teaches the popular quarterly “Wallflowers and Wine” evening painting events. Leasure has exhibited in many Florence venues, including the Siuslaw Library, the FEC, Peace Health Medical Center, The Chamber of Commerce, and the Dune’s Café.

    • Elissa Hurley will be featured on the Youth Wall at the FRAA Art Center and Gallery. Hurley is an active Junior at Siuslaw High School, enjoying art classes with Art teacher Kim Pickell, and playing sports. Most of her drawings and other art pieces are her experimenting and/or expressing her feelings, often using bright colors and “things that pop.” She uses pens, watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, scratchboard, and multimedia. As Hurley says, “Drawing naturally makes me feel calm and happy with everything. Art takes me to a new place to explore…a peaceful place to invent.”

  • Both artists will be featured at a reception at FRAA from 3 – 5 p.m on March 9th. The community is invited to come and meet these two talented artists.
